United States Department of Education and Head Start

In the United States federal system, most aspects of education policy are managed by the states, but the U.S. Department of Education provides many levels of funding, research, and resources. The website of the Department is extensive and can be somewhat overwhelming when one is looking for guidance on a specific topic or just browsing for information. Below we have provided links to some of the most informative and useful sections of the Department's website. These pages include an overview of the No Child Left Behind program, as well as full text of the statutes, regulations, and budget supporting the program; tools for finding schools, grants, and teaching jobs; ideas for school improvement; outside research reports; and much more. Please see the descriptions next to the links below for more specific information about these resources. The federal Head Start program, managed by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, was established during the administration of President Lyndon B. Johnson and provides early childhood education in communities throughout the nation. The Head Start website provides the policy and statutes underlying the program as well as information for all parents and educators on topics ranging from early childhood education and health to parenting guidance and community involvement.
